Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most families begin childbirth education between 28–32 weeks of pregnancy and complete the series by 34–35 weeks. This allows enough time to practice what you’re learning, finalize your birth preferences, and feel prepared — while also building in margin in case baby arrives earlier than expected.

If you’re unsure whether the timing is right for you, feel free to reach out and we can discuss your due date and schedule.

  • Yes. The Full Empowered Beginnings Series meets the childbirth education, newborn care, and breastfeeding class requirements for families delivering at Beginnings Birth Center. This live, instructor-led course is comprehensive and designed to fully prepare you for labor, birth, and early postpartum.

The One-Day Intensive does not replace the full childbirth education requirement. However, the breastfeeding portion fulfills the breastfeeding education requirement for first-time families at Beginnings Birth Center.

  • Partners are strongly encouraged to attend all classes. Birth is a team effort, and much of what we practice — comfort measures, communication, advocacy, and hands-on support — is designed to prepare your partner to confidently support you during labor and birth.

For the in-person classes, additional members of your birth or postpartum support team (such as a doula, parent, or close support person) are welcome to attend. It can be especially helpful for them to see the labor comfort measures practiced and to hear the breastfeeding education firsthand so everyone is on the same page.

*If a partner is unable to attend a session, please reach out ahead of time so we can discuss how to best keep them involved and prepared.

  • Enrollment is non-refundable. Course materials and instruction are provided regardless of attendance.

While we cannot control when labor begins, this is one reason I recommend starting your class series early enough in pregnancy to allow margin. Most families enroll between 28–34 weeks so that even if baby decides to arrive a little ahead of schedule, you’ve already covered the most essential preparation.

If you go into labor before completing the series, you will still receive access to any remaining materials and resources. My goal is that you feel informed and prepared well before your due date — not scrambling at the finish line.

  • Yes. Families may attend either the labor comfort portion or the breastfeeding portion if needed. However, attending the full day provides the most comprehensive preparation and allows you to fully practice the hands-on techniques covered.

  • As a practicing birth doula, I occasionally attend births that may overlap with class times. In the event I am called to a birth, a qualified backup instructor will teach the session, or the class will be rescheduled as needed.

Your education will not be shortened or skipped. My priority is ensuring you receive the full experience and preparation you signed up for.

  • Childbirth education is typically not covered by insurance. However, some HSA/FSA plans may reimburse educational services. Please check with your provider.
